The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) denounces the recent killing of George Floyd and others before him. We decry the pervasive racism and racial violence that challenges our members, patients and employees to live in dignity, safety and health.
The disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people of color exacerbated and exposed the societal biases and longstanding inequities in health care. SGO reaffirms its commitment to address these biases. In our recent statement, Promoting Health Equity in the Era of COVID-19, SGO issues a call to action for our organization and our members.
The welfare of our patients, our members, our staff and our society depends on our willingness to acknowledge the conditions that threaten people of color and underserved communities and to advocate for change. Let us live up to our Principles of Ethical Conduct and Practice and uphold the welfare of our patients by challenging the conditions that lead to gross health inequities.
