SGO Launches 2-Year Wellness Curriculum for Fellows

Member Update
Dec 15, 2021

The SGO Wellness Committee is proud to unveil a new Wellness Curriculum for fellows, now available through SGO ConnectEd. This this first-of-its-kind, 10-module series was developed with contributions from over 25 committee volunteers who carefully crafted each module to include an easy-to-follow facilitator’s guide and actionable take-home exercises to combat burnout and promote long-term wellness.

In a recent Q&A, Wellness Committee member, Sarah Lynam, MD, explains how the curriculum can be utilized by educators at the program level, “opening the door to meaningful discussion about healthy foundations for a satisfying career in Gynecologic Oncology,” she said. “The modules developed by the SGO Wellness Committee are the result of a coordinated effort among practicing and training Gynecologic Oncologists to combat the deleterious effects of burnout head on.”

With module topics such as resiliency and communicating bad news, the curriculum provides concrete tools and resources specifically selected to meet the unique needs of gynecologic oncologists.

“The decision among SGO leadership to implement, oversee and promote an entire curriculum dedicated to fellow wellness speaks volumes to the level of investment for subspecialty trainees yet to be recognized by several other medical specialties,” says Dr. Lynam.

For more information about the curriculum and how the material can be incorporated into fellowship activities, visit the SGO website or contact Jessica Oldham, Director of Governance and Clinical Practice, at jessica.oldham@sgo.org.
