(MAY 7, 2020) At the conclusion of the virtual Business Meeting of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) on May 6, David E. Cohn, MD, MBA, began his one-year term as the 52nd president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), a professional organization dedicated to advancing women’s cancer care by encouraging research, providing education, raising standards of practice, advocating for patients and members and collaborating with other domestic and international organizations.

An SGO Board member since 2011 and a member since 2001, Dr. Cohn most recently served as the Society’s Secretary-Treasurer. He has volunteered on numerous SGO committees over the past 20 years, including Chair of the SGO Education Committee and as a member of the SGO Annual Meeting Steering Committee.

“While I regret that we were not able to gather together this spring for the SGO Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I feel that in many ways we are working together more closely than ever before,” said Dr. Cohn. “The newly formed SGO COVID-19 Task Force has been consistently generating detailed clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of gynecologic cancer patients during the coronavirus pandemic, conducting numerous live webinars on this topic, and creating related patient resources that are being shared through SGO’s Foundation for Women’s Cancer.

“I am grateful to our immediate past president Dr. Warner Huh and the rest of the SGO Board for creating this task force, and moving forward I believe our association and our subspecialty will be nimble and adapt to the challenges that will emerge in the wake of COVID-19. Working with SGO’s Chief Executive Officer Pierre Désy, MPH, CAE, will allow us to create the strongest version of the Society in the coming year.”

Dr. Cohn is chief medical officer at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) and a professor of gynecologic oncology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, OH.

He attended Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle followed by a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Washington University in St. Louis. Recently Dr. Cohn received an MBA from The Ohio State University.
