The Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research has published an article by Krishnansu S. Tewari, MD, and Bradley J. Monk, MD, on the life and times of SGO Past President Philip J. DiSaia, MD. The article, “Philip John DiSaia, MD: Available Light & The Origin of Storms,” covers Dr. DiSaia’s nearly 50-year career in subspecialty of gynecologic oncology.

Dr. Tewari noted that the publication of Dr. DiSaia’s biography coincided with the Annual Philip J. DiSaia, MD, Society Symposium and Resident Paper Day, and added that Dr. DiSaia was particularly committed to the training of gynecologic oncology fellows.

“We felt it was important to acknowledge that during his later years, Dr. DiSaia was thrilled to see the Society emerge as a dominant platform for the best translational and clinical research in gynecologic malignancies and to have its membership comprised of the robust international roster it currently has,” said Dr. Tewari. “The article frames his biography alongside the evolution of our subspecialty. During his nearly 50-year career, Dr. DiSaia trained so many gynecologic oncologists that have gone into academia, who then trained their own fellows and junior faculty throughout the country. It is probably accurate that only four degrees of separation or less connects us all under his wide-reaching umbrella of medical education.”
