SGO Welcomes New Editors-In-Chief for Gynecologic Oncology and Gynecologic Oncology Reports

The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) is proud to announce starting in January 2022, David E. Cohn, MD, MBA, FACHE, will take over as Editor-in-Chief of Gynecologic Oncology and Susan C. Modesitt, MD, will take over as Editor-in-Chief of Gynecologic Oncology Reports.

After 15 years of distinguished service, Beth Y. Karlan, MD, will be stepping down from her role as Editor-in-Chief of SGO journals Gynecologic Oncology and Gynecologic Oncology Reports. Both journals have grown significantly in their success, most notably in Gynecologic Oncology’s increased Impact Factor from 2.319 in 2006 to 5.482 in 2020, placing the journal in the top 10% of all obstetrics/gynecology journals and in the top third of oncology journals. SGO extends a sincere thank you to Dr. Karlan for her dedicated leadership and guidance during her tenure with the journals.

Dr. Cohn is on the Board of Directors of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, where he currently serves as the Immediate Past President following his term as President from 2020 to 2021. He has published over 275 manuscripts and 20 book chapters. He holds two patents, one for the early detection of ovarian cancer and the other for a novel vaccination strategy for treatment of this disease. He has served as a Deputy Editor of Gynecologic Oncology since 2011.

Dr. Cohn is the Chief Medical Officer of the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute at Ohio State, a position he has held since 2018. He is a Professor in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, where he has been on faculty since 2001. He holds the Stuart M. Sloan and Larry J. Copeland Chair in Gynecologic Oncology. His research interests include the investigation of the genetics of endometrial cancer, signaling biology of ovarian cancer, and value-based cancer care delivery.

SGO would like to welcome Dr. Modesitt as the next Editor-in-Chief of Gynecologic Oncology Reports. Dr. Modesitt is the Director of the Gynecologic Oncology Division and the Director of the High-Risk Breast/Ovarian Cancer clinic at the University of Virginia.  She is also the Richard and Louise Crockett endowed Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Modesitt is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons and has served in multiple leadership roles and committees for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the NRG Oncology Group, and the UVA Cancer Center.  She has published over 100 articles, 10 book chapters, and has been recognized annually as a Top Doctor for Cancer. Her research focuses on hereditary cancers, obesity-related cancers, and clinical trials.
