SGO CEO Pierre Désy, MPH, CAE

The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) has highlighted each department within our organization in the past several editions of SGO Issues. We hope this information will encourage members to continue utilizing our resources and seek involvement to be a catalyst for change. SGO’s mission is to prevent and treat gynecologic cancers with equity, thereby improving lives through advocacy, engagement, education, research and collaboration. Our professional staff helps us achieve these goals through their great work daily supporting members.

Our operations department helps keep SGO organized internally, while our industry relations and business development department cultivates and sustains strong relationships with external corporate, foundation and government supporters. The governance and clinical practice team support SGO’s advocacy work that monitors and influences legislative and regulatory issues affecting the profession and supports federal funding of gynecologic cancer research. The department also ensures smooth operations of numerous volunteer committees, including SGO and FWC boards of directors.

Our professional education and meeting team helps members stay at the forefront of medicine by fostering members’ skills and knowledge through continuing education delivered online via SGO ConnectEd and in-person or hybrid for the Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer, Winter Meeting, and Allied Health Professionals Meeting. Staying connected is important and the marketing, communications and membership team ensure members feel connected and engaged through our membership networks, social media campaigns and up-to-date communications.

The Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) is the official foundation of SGO. Our focus is on bridging the communication gap between patients and care team members. The FWC encourages new ways to inform and inspire patients to seek early screenings, improve communication with their care team and empower them in their cancer journey.

SGO has established an exciting new department for Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity (DIHE) led by Derrick Mitchell, MHA, PMP. Through the department, we hope to accelerate progress in meeting the strategic DIHE goals of SGO and FWC.

SGO is nothing without its dedicated care team members. Our membership brings together over 2,000 health care professionals and women’s health advocates dedicated to prevent and treat gynecologic cancers, raising the standards of practice and advancing patient care. Help us continue these efforts by renewing your SGO membership and benefit from the interdisciplinary collaboration, connection and resources SGO has to offer.
