SGO Member of the Month (December 2023): Ginger J. Gardner, MD
In preparation for the SGO 2024 Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology is pleased to announce the December 2023 SGO Member of the Month: Foundation for Women’s Cancer (FWC) Chair Ginger J. Gardner, MD, who is Vice Chair of Hospital Operations, Department of Surgery; Physician Lead, Gynecology Disease Management Team Alliance at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY.
Dr. Gardner was nominated by Angeles Alvarez Secord, MD, MHSc, and Paola Gehrig, MD, for demonstrating excellence in one (or more) of the following areas:
Patient Care
Unity
Research
Philanthropy
Overcoming Obstacles
Strategic Leadership
Equity
“Dr. Gardner exemplifies every single aspect of PURPOSE,” Dr. Secord said in her nomination form. “She works tirelessly to support FWC initiatives and raise awareness of gynecologic cancers, provide education to improve equitable patient care, and enhance philanthropic funding for research. Her strategic leadership and ability to unite the gynecologic community has helped overcome obstacles and ensure the FWC mission and vision are realized. This September we celebrated Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, and the Move4Her events that Dr. Gardner championed have contributed to more than $560,000 raised to date.”
“Anyone who has seen or experienced Dr. Gardner’s passion for advocacy, research, and improving the lives and outcomes of the patients that we are so blessed to care for can see how each and every one of these areas should be checked,” said Dr. Gehrig. “She brings people together and if the theme is shared focus, she is laser-focused on the work of the FWC, and she works tirelessly to move the agenda forward and leads with conviction and by example. I will assume that she excels in the arena of patient care based on how grateful her patients are for her and for the care that she has provided. Dr. Gardner embodies the “Power of Shared Purpose.’”
