SGO Cancels Southeast Regional Meeting in Alabama in Response to Abortion Law

Chicago, IL (June 7, 2019)—In response to the recently passed abortion law in Alabama, the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) Board of Directors has canceled its 2019 Southeast Regional Meeting, which was scheduled for Sept. 19-21, in Birmingham, Alabama. Consistent with SGO’s mission and Principles for Health Care Reform, SGO opposes any legislation that restricts a woman’s access to health care and criminalizes the practice of medicine. Given the sweeping nature of the law in Alabama and its potential impact on women’s health and our members’ ability to practice, the Board feels it is most prudent and appropriate to withdraw the meeting from the state.
