SGO would like to congratulate Jonathan S. Berek, MD, MMSc, Laurie Kraus Lacob Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine, who has been appointed Chair of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) Committee on Women’s Cancer, formerly known as the Committee for Gynecologic Oncology. This prestigious committee composes the staging systems for gynecologic malignancies and oversees women’s cancer programs for FIGO. Dr. Berek is a long serving member of the committee and co-authored the revised staging systems for ovarian, fallopian tube, peritoneal, cervical, and vulvar malignancies.

Dr. Berek is the Director of the Stanford Women’s Cancer Center and Senior Advisor at the Stanford Cancer Institute. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG) and Group Chair of the Cooperative Gynecologic Oncology Investigators (COGI). Dr. Berek is the immediate Past Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Past President of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, and Past Fellow of the Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute. In 2020, he was honored by the American Cancer Society for a lifetime of achievement in research and patient care in gynecologic cancer.
