Society of Gynecologic Oncology recognizes winners of 2020 SGO Awards

The Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2020 SGO Awards.

The following awards, determined by the SGO Honors and Awards Committee, recognize individuals whose efforts have made an impact on the prevention, care and treatment of gynecologic cancers.

Distinguished Service Award
William J. Hoskins, MD (retired) of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes individuals who, over an extended period of time, display a continuous outstanding meritorious service in the field of gynecologic oncology.

Innovation Award
Joan L. Walker, MD, of the University of Oklahoma Stephenson Cancer Center, Oklahoma City, OK, is the recipient of the Innovation Award, which honors individuals who have been exceptionally creative thinkers and significantly impacted the understanding of and/or approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of gynecologic cancers.

Gynecologic Oncology Humanitarian & Volunteerism Award
Ann Marie Beddoe, MD, MPH, of Mount Sinai Health System, New York, NY, is the recipient of the Gynecologic Oncology Humanitarianism and Volunteerism Award, which is awarded to an individual for their exemplary local, national or international volunteer and outreach efforts in women’s cancer care, research or training.

Harry J. Long Multidisciplinary Award
This year there are three recipients of the Harry J. Long Multidisciplinary Award, which recognizes outstanding SGO members for their contributions to multidisciplinary mentorship, collegiality or teaching in the field of gynecologic oncology. For 2020, the Society acknowledges:

  • Jeffrey M. Fowler, MD, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, OH
  • Heidi J. Gray, MD, University of Washington, Seattle, WA
  • William P. McGuire, III, MD, Virginia Commonwealth University / Massey Cancer Center, Richmond, VA

The following award is presented on behalf of SGO’s Legislative/Regulatory Task Force:

Congressional Ambassador Award
John Farley, MD, COL (ret), FACOG, FACS, of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center,
Phoenix, AZ, is the recipient of the Congressional Ambassador Award, which recognizes an SGO member who has worked hard to educate our elected and appointed officials in Washington, DC, to promote health care policy changes and annual federal funding increases to positively impact the field of gynecologic oncology and those impacted by gynecologic cancer malignancies.

The following award is presented on behalf of the SGO 2020 Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer Program Committee:
