Surgical Education Resources
Forces both internal and external to the specialty of Gynecologic Oncology are influencing the process of trainees developing the technical skills and capabilities necessary for operative proficiency and clinical competence during the period of formal training. There are a number of strategic approaches that can be undertaken to counteract some of the negative forces and amplify the impact of positive forces. As clinician-educators, one obvious opportunity to positively impact the training experience of our fellows is to enhance the educational credentials and experience of ourselves – in other words Train the Trainers.
The resources in this section provide information on formal adult educational principles and practice, curriculum design, one-on-one teaching methods, and implementation strategies in order to optimize the fellowship learning experience, with the emphasis on surgical skill acquisition and development. Gynecologic Oncology Fellows represent the next generation of clinician-educators and, as such, will find these resources invaluable for not only enhancing their own teaching abilities but augmenting their learning experiences from their current mentors as well.
